چکیده
Background: In Parkinson’s disease, deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) or globus pallidus internus (GPi) produces comparable motor benefits. Although both increases risk cognition and verbal fluency (VF) decline, is greater following STN-DBS. The consequences stimulating these different sites on network activity unknown. We use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during in vivo to investigate differences between STN-DBS GPi-DBS correlate with change VF. Methods: Left-sided, stimulation-cycling block-design fMRI was acquired at 3-Tesla 51 15 routine clinical programming. Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) response compared groups. Phonemic VF assessed pre- postoperatively. Results: Voxel-wise t-test BOLD maps revealed areas significant difference (p<0.001) left frontal operculum caudate head. Stimulation appears show slight inverse correlation postoperative decline. trend reversed GPi-DBS. Conclusions: Decline PD-DBS seems associated effect differs depending site, suggesting differing effects activity.

Different outcomes of phonemic verbal fluency in Parkinson's disease patients with subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation.
Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is a surgical technique to treat motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Studies have shown that STN-DBS may cause a decline in verbal fluency performance. We aimed to verify the effects of STN-DBS on the performance of phonemic verbal fluency in Brazilian PD patients. Sixteen participants were evaluated on the Unified Parki...
متن کاملPhonemic verbal fluency and age: A preliminary study
Verbal fluency (VF) has been one of the most frequently used instruments in clinics and research, both independently or included in a battery recommended for the detection of cognitive alterations. Phonemic-verbal fluency (PVF) is an interesting variant for cognitive diagnosis particularly because studies indicate that it is less influenced by age. Objectives 1. To estimate the effects of age...

the central purpose of this study was to conduct a case study about the role of self monitoring in teacher’s use of motivational strategies. furthermore it focused on how these strategies affected students’ motivational behavior. although many studies have been done to investigate teachers’ motivational strategies use (cheng & d?rnyei, 2007; d?rnyei & csizer, 1998; green, 2001, guilloteaux & d?...
Phonemic verbal fluency task in adults with high-level literacy
Objective: To establish normative parameters for the F-A-S form of the phonemic verbal fluency test, in a population of Brazilian Portuguese speaking adults with high-level literacy. Methods: The sample comprised 40 male and female volunteers aged 19 to 59 years, and at least 8 years of formal education. Volunteers were first submitted to the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Clock Drawin...
متن کاملVerbal fluency and intrinsic brain activity in Alzheimer’s disease
Growing evidence from task-based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies consistently indicates network abnormalities in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients (1,2). While a picture is emerging on how these changes affect cognition and behavior at various stages of the disease, there is less understanding of the changes in functional connectivity between spatially distant brain areas i...
